The Spring 2012 issue of Guitar Aficionado, currently available on newsstands and at the Apple App Store for the iPad and iPhone, gives readers an unprecedented and exclusive tour of the celebrated guitars of George Harrison, courtesy of his son, Dhani Harrison. Spanning Harrison’s career from the Beatles through his solo years, the celebrated collection is also featured in the new iPad app The Guitar Collection: George Harrison, which was developed by Dhani, who graces the issue’s cover.
To commemorate the release of The Guitar Collection: George Harrison, Guitar Aficionado is offering the opportunity for 10 readers to win a free download of the app!
The app allows users to spin the historic Harrison guitars and zoom in and out on them at will, providing a dynamic, interactive experience that one could never achieve via photos alone. Through unique 360-degree imaging, rare audio, and archival photography, the app highlights the sound and look of each classic guitar. Dhani Harrison also enlisted the help of several famous guitarists and George Harrison fans, including Ben Harper and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, to perform and comment on the historic guitars as part of the app.
Both the app and Guitar Aficionado’s Spring 2012 issue take a look at some of George Harrison’s most notable and celebrated axes. Included in the feature is Rocky, Harrison’s 1961 Fender Stratocaster that received its name, along with a cosmetic Day-Glo makeover, during the recording sessions for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, in 1967. Other classics in the issue include Harrison’s rosewood 1968 Telecaster, used during sessions for Let It Be and Abbey Road, and his 1963 Rickenbacker, played on such hits as “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

The first shipments , a few of these old gats are in hand of the original owners

Fingers are crossed to win the ‘Guitar Collection: George Harrison app’! I am a player/collector, but not NEARLY of the caliber of the George Harrison Collection!!! But, of all the guitar’s in his collection, if I could have only one, it would be my ‘namesake’ guitar, “Rocky”!! Not because it shares my name, but because ever since seeing it on the MMT album cover, I’ve always been ‘hooked’ on its paint scheme!!!
Love your magazine!
Been a long-time big fan of the Beatles and would be ecstatic to win this collection. Please count me in. Thanks!!
I am a huge George Harrison fan. From his early days with the Beatles through Bangladesh and on.
This is a great way to revisit the greatest and most influential band of all time and to get a better look into the interesting detail and working tools George used. As a musician and lover of the technology of recording and history, this a welcome addition. Also it is like a breath of fresh air to know Georges son Dhani has spearheaded this effort. George was no slouch in the academic department and it is nice to know that the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. George would be very proud.
The magazine is one of my favorite monthly reads…
I enjoy it. Thank you.
I AM a big George Harrison Fan, as well as a big Beatles fan, but who isn’t I would love to have Georges collection hanging in my office it would be a big feather in the cap! My love of The Beatles Music has spanned over 46 Years!
Great publication and enjoy the mix of articles with artists and guitars and stuff that make all of us want to own MORE GUITARS!
Thanks and let me know if you ever want an opine, I’ve got many.
Regards,
Pert

My Thanks to Dhani Harrison, For giving an opprotunity to win such Prized and Historic Gutiars , I like”Rocky!”, That is the one George is playing on vidio”I am the Walrus”, right?,Alway thought “Rocky” and Hendrix’s Smashed Strat(Monterrey Pop), Could be Sisters(Prefer Guitars as Women!) Thanx,…Keith
I like George Harrison!!!
thanx for the chance
I love the idea of possessing a guitar from my teenage era
I love your site! The Beatles (especially George Harrison) are a legend. I would to win this prize! Thanks!!
The app is very good but actually disappoints by leaving so much out. Obviously the original instruments are no longer around or in Dhani’s possession, but something could have been done to recreate or replicate the Casino, the Tennesse Rose, the SG or the Country Gentleman. An app based on the guitars of George Harrison without the Gent? Disappointing….
I entered the ‘Harrison Guitar App Contest’, but I’d really like to win the guitar that’s my ‘namesake’, the ‘Rocky Strat’!!
Thanks,
Rocky Farnsworth
The Stratocasters and the rosewood Telecaster probably meant the most to George.Certainly as the guitars age they improved in tone. His Gibson Les Paul used for the song and video’Revolution’is my fave.
As George would say “All things must pass.” Hopefully, a time will soon pass enough so that we can get legitimate re-issues.
It would, of course, be very disrespectfully go ask for George’s family to if he can have his beloved guitars’ to replicate too soon.
I understand your eagerness, though, because can’t wait to getter my hands around a G.H. model Rickenbacker 360/12 Fire-glo. Also, I’d love to play a little “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” with “Rocky”. Take care
George es todo un mistico
Entered late
I’d really love to win this. I’d love to have half the talent that George had. I miss him dearly and wish Jeff Lynn would get Dylan and the rest of the boys together to write and record a tribute album dedicated to George. I’m sure he can find a few more talented musicians to fill infer George and Roy.
