The Oeno File: 2006 Miner Benedetto Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

April 1st, 2011

By Chris Gill

Benedetto Cabernet Sauvignon is Miner’s top flight offering, bottled in celebration of an annual jazz guitar festival held at the Miner Family winery in honor of the work of master luthier Bob Benedetto. The wine is a Bordeaux-style blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 3% Malbec, and 1% Petite Verdot. Only 200 cases of the 2006 vintage were produced.

After about two hours of decanting this wine exudes the slight graphite nose of a Saint-Emilion Bordeaux. Ripe red fruit flavors emanate from the glass, with just a hint of mineral earthiness underneath. With 14.2% alcohol, it’s not overly hot like many modern California Cabs, making it a great wine for pairing with food.
