May 21st, 2014

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour joined Ben Watt on stage Monday night for a sold-out performance at London’s Islington Assembly Hall. As reported in the Financial Times, Watt was “was aided by some classy accompanists, including ex-Suede man Bernard Butler, one of the best rock guitarists of his generation and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, one of the best guitarists of any generation.”

Gilmour joined Watt and Butler for a performance of “The Levels,” on which he played pedal steel guitar. He switched to electric guitar for a brilliant performance of “Young Man’s Game,” which you can check out in the video below.

The critically acclaimed Hendra, which was released April 29, has earned widespread 4 star reviews from Mojo, Q, Uncut, the Guardian and more. Ann Powers of NPR Music said, “Ben Watt is a master of detail and of quietude… Now, with his first solo album in 31 years, he has returned to highly cultured, intimate song craft.”

This June, Watt will head to the U.S. for his first ever solo performances aside from his work as a DJ. Just announced are two Q&A’s and readings from “Romany and Tom” at PowerHouse Areana in New York on June 10 and at Book Soup in Los Angeles on June 14.
