What do Whitesnake, Night Ranger, Foreigner, Trans Siberian Orchestra, the Turtles, Cathy Richardson, and the Broadway musical Rock of Ages all have in common? They’ve all enjoyed the lead guitar services of Joel Hoekstra.
This guitarist gets hired.
Interviewed on episode six of No Guitar Is Safe, the new podcast from Guitar Player magazine, Hoekstra recalls his many musical adventures while tracing his ascent to becoming one of the most in-demand guitarists in rock.
The guitarist also discusses his soon-to-be-released solo album, Dying to Live, by Joel Hoekstra’s 13, which will be released in October on Frontiers Records as well as his new album with Whitesnake, The Purple Album, which is a tribute to the years Whitesnake singer David Coverdale sang in Deep Purple.
And if you like the live video here (featuring a Joel Hoekstra guitar cadenza from a recent Whitesnake gig in St. Charles, Missouri, filmed by Patrick Larson), you’ll be pleased to know that Hoekstra discusses and demonstrates this crazy solo’s moves in his interview with host Jude Gold. It’s all free, and it’s on this latest episode of Guitar Player‘s No Guitar Is Safe.
