It will be a true “Celebration Day” for about 7,000 lucky individuals at Berklee College of Music’s Commencement Weekend, May 9 and 10.

Jimmy Page will deliver the commencement address to more than 880 graduates and nearly 6,000 guests at the event. The Led Zeppelin guitarist and producer will also be honored with an honorary Doctor of Music degree.

Honory degrees will also be presented to R&B songwriter Valerie Simpson, jazz pianist educator Geri Allen, and American Music Program youth jazz orchestra founder Thara Memory at the ceremony on May 10, at the Agganis Arena in Boston.

In addition, student musicians will pay tribute to the honorees with a concert featuring their music.

I am nearly in tears and am so proud of both James Alan Page and Berklee College of Music. I think we all know the significance of Mr. Page’s contribution to music. His skills are above and beyond contestation as a player, producer, and purveyor of styles and influences from all over the world. His musical voice has brought countless billions happiness repeatedly. An Honorary Doctorate from a prestigious college of music is a fitting and justifiable award for decades of study to the artist and the art form he has embraced with passion, dedication, and success. Well done Berklee for recognizing that fact and for showing your graduates the same. Congratulations Mr. Page. Now its time for England’s royalty to knight all members of Led-Zeppelin including John Bonham posthumously.
