Hollywood Vampires—the new group featuring Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and friends—have released their debut track, a cover of the Who’s “My Generation,” which you can hear below.
Their version of the classic Sixties hit is heavier than the original, if not quite as raw. Cooper cops the right attitude with his voice, while Depp and coguitarist Tommy Henriksen give the song a solid driving edge with their riffing. The group is rounded out by bassist Bruce Witkin—doing an impressive job on those John Entwistle bass parts—and drummer Zak Starkey, who tours with the Who.
Missing from the song, apparently, is Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who along with Cooper and Depp makes up the trio at the heart of the Hollywood Vampires.
“My Generation” will be included on Hollywood Vampires, the group’s debut, which comes out September 11. The album will include guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Slash, Joe Walsh, Robby Krieger and several others.
The band will make its live debut on September 16 and 17 at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip, after which they’ll appear at Brazil’s Rock in Rio festival on September 24.
