Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach has revealed details of his new side project, the Arcs. The group, which consists of Auerbach and several of his longtime musician friends, will release its debut album, Yours, Dreamily, on September 4. In the meantime, you can hear the preview track “Stay in My Corner” below.
In addition to Auerbach, the group includes Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, Nick Movshon and Kenny Vaughan. Auerbach has worked with many of them on records that he’s produced for Lana Del Ray, Dr. John, Ray LaMontagne and others.
The guitarist told RollingStone.com that the band is “the culmination of all these years playing together. We just finally put a name to it and decided to put out an album.”
For Auerbach, the Arcs is a markedly different approach from his two-man lineup in the Black Keys. “These guys have equal input on all the songs,” he says. “It’s a completely different thing than the Black Keys, where I write the lyrics, the chords and most of the melodies.”
Yours, Dreamily was cut in just over two weeks at studios in L.A. , Nashville, Manhattan and Queens. “Stay in My Corner,” was inspired by the recent Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao fight. It is also available as a 7-inch single with “Tomato Can” on side B, exclusively at independent record stores.
