Former Megadeth members Chris Broderick (guitar) and Shawn Drover (drums) have formed a new band, Act of Defiance, with Henry Derek (ex-Scar The Martyr) on vocals and Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall) on bass.

They’ve also announced that they’re already working on their debut album, which will be released via Metal Blade Records this summer.

You can check out a preview of a new song, “Throwback,” below.

“I am so excited to finally be able to announce Act of Defiance to the world,” Broderick says. “Shawn just finished tracking drums the first week of February, and his performance and tones are simply incredible. I have started tracking rhythms and leads, as well as working with Henry to get final vocal takes while Matt will record bass at his studio. The final mix and mastering will also be handled by Zeuss.

“I am also very honored to announce that we have signed with Metal Blade. There is not a better label to be on than one where the employees (and owner) still understand and listen to metal!”

Very very good. Sounds a lil like shades of Testament, good stuff. Also the way its mixed which I know nothing of but, it has a distinctive raw, full sound and you can hear every instrument and vox.

I’m a bit disappointed. I’m a long-time fan of Broderick’s work; I’ve been a huge Jag Panzer fan as long as I can remember. But this is a let down. No memorable riffs(The sweetest one was that fast thrash one, that was just a bridge that was too long),the vocals are awful in my opinion, singer sounds like generic nu-metal alice in chains wanna-be. The drums are good, Shawn Drover kills it. And Broderick’s leads are as awesome as ever. The recording quality is nicey; everything sounds great, I just think more time and effort should have been put into writing quality riffs and different singing, maybe Tim Aymar(CONTROL DENIED, PHARAOH)?
