This April, Dallas is the place to be for all guitar enthusiasts. In addition to the 34th annual Dallas International Guitar Festival, the city will play host to Heritage Auctions’ Signature Vintage Guitar & Musical Instrument Auction, where more than 900 vintage guitars and musical instruments, including a rare pre-war 1930 Martin OM-28 Acoustic Guitar, estimated at more than $40,000, are being put on the block.

According to Jonas Aronson, Director of Vintage Guitars at Heritage, “There is no doubt that the 1930 Martin is the star of the show, but there are two additional Gibsons that will also be receiving plenty of collector attention when they come up for bid: a 1956 Les Paul Black Beauty and a 1959 ES-335 in Sunburst, both estimated at $25,000+.”

The California Surf Scene is well represented in the auction, with more than 230 Fender guitars and amplifiers. Highlights of the grouping include a pair of 1950s Fenders, including a 1955 Fender Telecaster Blonde Electric Guitar, #7536, valued at $18,000+, and a seldom seen 1959 Stratocaster in Olympic White, estimated at $30,000+.

“Another Fender that has generated significant collector buzz is the Custom Shop Nocaster made for Bob Dylan back in 1996,” says Aronson. “It comes with a 1950s Fender tweed Princeton and a stage used harmonica, and should command more than $25,000.”

This auction also contains a fine selection of instruments with pedigrees, exemplified by The Doug Fieger Collection, 10 instruments from the estate of the late singer of The Knack. Fieger co-wrote ‘My Sharona’, the #1 Song of 1979 and an FM radio staple ever since.

Also featured will be Stanley Clarke’s two Lieber Spellbinder Sibling Basses, including his Spellbinder 4-String Black Sibling Electric Bass Guitar #NA, estimated at $20,000+, as played during his Return to Forever Reunion Tour and the Thunder Tour featuring SMV — Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten.

Rounding out the gathering at Dallas International Guitar Festival is one of Eddie Van Halen’s former guitars, a 1980s Grover Jackson Custom Van Halen Electric Guitar #NA, expected to bring $25,000+.
